Hi Lynn,
Just wanted to give you a quick one year update on Mana (Daddy and
Misty pup) He is doing great, 25 inches at the withers and 90 lbs.
He has the best temperament. Friendly to almost everyone and never
dog aggressive. Even when confronted by an aggressive dog, he just
stands his ground and looks to me. When we are walking and see a small
dog coming Mana will lay down almost to tell the little dog "I just
want to be friends I wont hurt you."
He does have people he just doesn't like but usually there is a very
good reason. Like you predicted when we picked him, he is serious
about his job. Loves women and children, but does not let strange
adult men anywhere near my wife.
He has never tried to bite anyone, he just lets them know with his
body language and occasionally a deep growl.
Being away at work for 48 hrs at a time I like knowing my AB is on
duty. When I get home from work he needs a good day of napping
because he has been on protection duty for two days.
Everyone in our neighborhood knows and loves him. I cant get 100
yards without someone having to come out and say hi to him.
What else can I say, He is just a Great Dog!
Last week I was out walking him near our house when a large (likely
homeless and a drug addict) man asked me if I had any spare change.
I'm a big guy, but this guy was huge and looked to be up to no good.
I replied "sorry don't have any money with me." He said "I bet your
got some money on you" then looked down at Mana and said "hey dog."
He tried to put his hand out and I told him "you might lose that hand."
Like on command Mana puffed up his posture and let out a deep scary
growl. The dirt bag was visibly shaken and quickly backed away from
me.
Then five minutes later Mana is licking two 5 year olds down the
street, the little ordeal didn't even phase him.
We could not be happier with our dog. He really is my best friend
